What's new?

July 2025 - New Publication! Elmosteus is a new placoderm from the Middle Devonian of Manitoba, published in the Journal of Systematic Palaeontology. Email me one of us authors for a free copy (first come first serve) or check out the accepted manuscript version available on my website. Links available in my Research section!

June 2025
- I am excited to announce that I was awarded a Research Manitoba Postdoctoral Fellowship Award to continue my work at the University of Manitoba! I will be joining the BETY Lab, led by Dr Ricardo Silva, and get introduced to the world of geochemistry (but still with palaeo in there, not to worry).
Also, the next International Symposium on Early and Lower Vertebrates is taking place in February 2026! Keep an eye out for registration and don't forget to submit your fishy abstract for a talk or poster. Link

May 2025 - Welcome to all the summer research students in the PaleoSed Lab! In particular, Mitchell Baker was awarded an NSERC Undergraduate Summer Research Award to work with me on Devonian fish, and a little something more...

September 2024 - I am delighted to officially begin my Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Manitoba's Earth Sciences Department, working with Dr Kirstin Brink and the PaleoSed Lab. Some great research to come!

June 2024 - What an amazing conference at Miguasha and Rimouski, QC. Prof. Richard Cloutier and the organizing team did an amazing job hosting the International Symposium on Early and Lower Vertebrates at one of the most iconic Palaeozoic sites worldwide (that's where Elpistostege comes from!). Beatiful fossils, great cliffs, awesome food, presenting recent and ongoing research, and establishing new collaborations. Looking forward to the next one in Morocco!

May 2024 - This month, we hosted the Canadian Society of Vertebrate of Paleontology. A successful collaboration between the University of Manitoba and the Manitoba Museum, and some of the graduate students got to see a little of how conferences are organized. Great job team, it was a pleasure working with everyone on the organisation of this event!
